A good night’s sleep is a fundamental necessity when to comes to your well-being. Lack of which, can not only affect your health, but has a negative effect on most other areas of your life. Whether you get a good night’s sleep or not, depends largely on your mattress.

Sleeping on a mattress that is either too firm, or too soft, or plainly too uncomfortable can rob you of the rest your body needs. Moreover, a mattress that isn’t suited to you may also lead to serious health issues like obesity, allergies, and chronic back pain. Choose your mattress carefully, and realise when it is time to get a new one, because an old mattress can cause the following problems:

Increased stress

Most of us are already stressed about enough, and definitely do not need additional stress induced by sleeplessness and body ache. An old mattress is a direct source of stress, studies have shown.

Weaker immunity

Sleeping on a mattress deprives your body of the kind of rest that it needs. Lack of sleep is known to weaken our immunity against allergies and diseases.

Risk of heart disease

A study conducted by the European Heart Journal found that people who are subjected to lack of sleep, or even poor sleep are 48 times as likely to develop a heart condition, in comparison to those who get a comfortable night’s sleep.

A good mattress is a valuable investment

Apart from the above mentioned problems, there are numerous other health issues that have been associated with the use of an old or unfit mattress. Moreover, sleeplessness also compromises your performance in your professional life. Even your social life will be affected if you are not getting the right amount of comfortable sleep.

Keeping that in mind, it is advisable to change your mattress at least every five years, in order to ensure you keep getting the rest you deserve.
